Read the manualPer-recipient video screeners
Screener marks a cut once per recipient. Each copy carries a short code burned into the picture, tied to the name it went to.
If a screenshot of a frame turns up somewhere it should not have, you drop it back in. Screener shows you what it read of the code, and you can correct that before it searches.
It is a deterrent and a tracing aid, and it is a separate product from Onionskin rather than a version of it. It does not stop a screener being re-recorded or leaked, and a burned-in mark can be cropped out or painted over.
Known limits
HDR is marked through an 8-bit stage, so highlights above the 8-bit range are flattened. Screener warns before the run. Send an SDR export for review and keep the HDR master back.
Because audio is never re-encoded, some combinations are refused: if the audio in your file cannot be carried into an MPEG-4 file untouched, Screener says so and asks you to choose QuickTime instead, rather than quietly re-encoding your sound to add a picture mark.
One source file per run, and a marked copy is an ordinary video file, with no encryption on it and no password needed to open it.
What it is
- ReadsAny video AVFoundation opens. A leaked still, to look a code up.
- WritesOne marked video per recipient, named for the recipient.
- MarkingBurned into the picture. Audio is never re-encoded.
- TracingA partial code, or a screenshot in which the code can still be read.
- NetworkOnce a day it asks oddlots.shop whether a newer version exists, and a switch in Settings turns that off. Help › Check for Updates asks whenever you choose. The request names neither you nor the version you have, and nothing downloads until you choose to install.
- NeedsA Mac with Apple silicon or Intel. Tested on macOS 26.
